I just talked to the vet and they said to stop insulin for a while. They cut the amount last month and he went back for blood test on Wednesday , his blood sugar was only 28 which was really low, I mean possible seizure low . So they said to stop insulin until they had gotten his fructosamine test back from the lab. Which he said the results were excellent ( I'm not quite sure why if they were excellent when he was getting insulin means he shouldn't get it anymore, but I guess the vet knows what he's talking about) I tested yesterday morning (levels were 92) which was not easy, I had to get blood from his paw which isn't as sanitary as getting it from his ear but on the very off chance I've gotten blood from his ear I can't ever get it on the strip. . I barely managed to get it from his paw, the needle even on the deepest setting barely punctured the skin and he didn't like when I had to squeeze the blood out, I barely got enough to run the test. Anyway no more insulin unless I start noticing symptoms like excessive drinking or urination or his blood sugar levels go below 70 or above 200. Not that he minded getting shots (he would run to me every time he heard me get the needle and sometimes wake me up just before the alarm would go off to get his morning shot. Until recently anyway, maybe he knew he didn't need it anymore? ) but I wasn't keen on getting up at 7 every morning to give the shot and making sure I was around every night at 7 for his nightly shot.
